After sifting through many offers from GMs interested in Vanek, Matt presented the best opportunity for me to improve the SJS Franchise. Losing Gordon to NYI was tough; Shaw will help replace the FOW and hopefully some scoring (he is due anytime now); not to mention a good seven years younger and extra cap space.

Thanks Matt and I look forward to dealing with you again.

Ya I hear you. At first that was my reaction as well. I thought about it a few days and realized Shaw is the perfect comparable to where vanek is at right now. Of course, if he finds his old game then Matt does very well here. We shall see.

I still think this is an awful trade. One bad half year and vaneks value drops off the fa e of the earth? How was there no adds like picks or a prospect or two?

I tell ya buddy, and I am honest when I say, Andrew Shaw was the best offer I got. I had a lot offers come in, but so many people were scared off at him for not producing as expected with the $6.5M cap hit. If Vanek was producing more H2H, then yes I would have asked for several adds.

For what it's worth, Shaws overall Fantrax score surpasses Vanek. Not a lot of people around here see value in fantrax score, bur there ya go.
