I think Zamula would be one of those players who isn't eligible for this draft. I entered his contract info in the database last night and saw he's only 18. He'd be eligible for next year's entry draft but not this year's waiver draft since he's a 2000 birthdate.

Automatically eligible for the 2018 Waiver draft are ALL bbkl-free players who were:
- born before january 1st 1999, if they played a season in N.A. when 18,19 or 20yrs old
- born before january 1st 1998, if they never played in N.A. when 18,19 or 20yrs old

Additionally, bbkl-free players already signed to a NHL contract are eligible as well, even if born later than that.

He should be eligible.

When the waiver draft ends, when can we start claiming free agents? If I am reading the rules correctly - only after roster submission?

The typical routine has been we open up free agency the day after the draft ends at noon (Eastern). I'm guessing we finish tomorrow or Sunday...we'll have free agency Sunday or Monday. I'll post the free agency thread tonight.

To put an official time on roster submission...I'll say next Sunday night (September 30) at 8:00 p.m. You post a link to your "Preseason" sheet. Make sure you have no more than 90 players and 50 contracts and you're cap compliant. And you must have your full roster on Fantrax. Any missing players will be available after I complete the review.

First day of waiver activity will be Monday, October 1...all players being waived from roster submission.

You can still claim free agents after roster submission but they'll go towards your Week 1 lineup.

I dont think they should be available to be claimed as it promotes dragging out OTC timers.

Well, it has already happened hence why I'm asking the question. Some clarity would be nice on this.

I vaguely remember it happening a few years ago and one of the next picks took them and it was allowed, but don't remember who or when, just that it happened hence why I made the move up since I expected someone else to grab him first.

Smart pick by Cliff...was going to go with Welinski if I couldn't make up my mind on a prospect.

I think that should a rule going forward but can't enforce it now. A player must be under contract when the draft starts.

However, a player like that would still be available when free agency started.

Technically Zamula wouldn't bc he still has draft eligibility.

You're right...had to look. It's in the rules that you can't claim draft-eligible guys. You can only do it in the waiver draft.

So for clarity sake, no more claiming guys that sign after the draft has already started?
