If you agree that he is not a true #1 center, why in the world would you think he is worth 6-7m? I'm not following that logic.

That's a big if. And even so if it comes to that there will be another lockout. Most good #2's are locked into the 4-5 range right now. Literally the only reason the Capitals gave Kuznetsov as much as they did is because they were afraid if they didn't pay him like a #1 he would bolt for Russia. Seeing as they are all in for 1-2 more cup runs they couldn't allow that to happen.

The cap has already increased man, the list of 2 C is quite big

I'll agree with you that he's over payed but not as much as you are making it out to be

And I'm sure Mik's asking price on him is the price of an elite #1 center. And his new contract makes him the 21st highest paid player in the NHL and that includes guys like Rick Nash and Joe Thornton who should come off that list next year. Yes not 21st highest paid center, but 21st highest paid player in the entire NHL. If Rakell+a likely top 5 pick isnt enough for Mik, I shudder to think what he is actually asking for. That alone is really overpayment.

So no, I don't think he's a clear-cut #1. You could make an argument, but IMO he's clearly one of those borderline 1/2s

I'd take Kuz over Kesler Carter Barkov Couture the Staals Kadri Stephan Backlund and probably a few others myself

That's crazy talk. The only advantage Kuzy has over most of those guys is his age.

And in terms of bbkl value, Id take most of those guys over Kuzy as well starting with Trocheck who is significantly more valuable at a much cheaper cap hit.

Age is a factor absolutely who builds a team without considering it...
