The New York Islanders have agreed to an eight-year contract extension with recent trade acquisition Bo Horvat. The terms of the contract have not been disclosed at this time.

The Fourth Period’s Irfaan Gaffar reports that the deal is believed to be around an $8MM AAV, although that number has not yet been widely reported, so it may be too early to count this report as the exact cap hit for Horvat’s extension.

Glad the canucks didn't pay him that much he will be 36 when this deal ends and this is his only really good year.

But good for the Isles maybe they can compete with him and barzal and a pretty good dman and goaltending

Though Larkin is younger... Which makes a difference in a 8-year deal that runs into the 30s... Same GM gave more than 9M to Barzal for example

What's funny with Larkin, he's the only guy on the team worth a big money contract. If Yzerman wants to play hard ball with him, you might as well tear it all down again. He's the best player on the team since Zetterberg and Datsyuk left.

If you pay him $8 or $8.5 or $9, nobody is getting close to him in terms of value on the team. I don't know what you pay guys like Seider and Raymond when their ELCs are up. Yzerman has to set the new bar for salary on the team. You put Larkin at a certain level and you use that to set the levels for all the other guys after him.

If Raymond and Seider both have strong 3rd seasons, do they approach $8 million? Yzerman has done his best to not give out too much money or term. I can argue, the Copp deal is the only questionable contract he's given out. The money has been spent wisely in free agency.

I didn't think I would, but I'm starting to wonder whether Larkin might get traded at the deadline

If the rumors are true that Larkin's side wants $9 million and Yzerman offered $8 milion...is there no room for compromise? The Horvat 8 years for $68 million seems reasonable but it's not my money.

Bertuzzi is a guy I don't see having a future in Detroit regardless of what happens with Larkin. That guy can't stay healthy. If you move Larkin alos, this team takes a huge step back in their development. I've not seen Kasper play but does he even check all the boxes Larkin checks? I picture Larkin being the #1 center unless a mega-star falls in their lap.

I don't want them to move Larkin. The Lightning signed Stamkos to a new deal at the start of free agency a few years ago. I don't like them playing chicken like this. He should be the standard-bearer of the franchise. Don't pay anyone more than him because he is their best player unless they're undeniable.

Hey bud - just dropping in to say “hi” and see how the league is doing. Nice to see it’s still up and running.

Always nice when a face from the past shows up to say hello :)!! League is still trucking along and hopefully will be for a lot longer. Bit more of a draft and develop league these days but we still get some nice trades every now and then.

How are you doing these days? You’re definitely still missed!

It's like the Mattias Samuelsson deal...slightly cheaper.

Seeing Maatta get extended makes me wonder what the Wings defense will look like next year. Chiarot, Hronek, Seider and now Maatta are signed into next year...Lindstrom is an RFA with Oesterle, Walman and Hagg as UFAs. Mark Pysyk has been hurt all season...he's only on a one year deal but I don't know if he's in their plans.

I really like Walman and does that just inevitably lead to Edvinsson being the 6th guy? He might end being too good to leave in the minors another year by the end of this season.

Seeing Walman do well when he's been in the lineup and Sundqvist seems like a staple in their forward group...plus they got the Blues' 2nd...all for Nick Leddy and Luke Witkowski. This was a very productive trade for Yzerman last trade deadline.

I think there are more question marks about what the Wings forward group will look like next year compared to their defense. I'm not overthinking the Larkin situation...they'll get him signed. He's playing really well since the break and he's playing motivated and he looks like a true leader on the team during this win streak.

O'Really?

Hey Leafs fans... I'd say chances in the playoffs (still there obv) would have been better by getting Parayko and Acciari for 1st and Sandin than this?
