1 way deals have nothing to do with playing in the NHL or AHL anywhere except in the NHL series of video games, it has to due with the amount of money you are paid. A 2-way deal means you have a salary in the NHL which is higher than the salary you'd make in the AHL.

a one way deal also means you're more likely to be in the NHL.

Pretty sure dhal and McCain both have 2-way deals.

It does in Arizona. I can't imagine a team who struggles to make money at the cap floor is happy to pay guys 700k to play in the AHL.

And to answer matthews post - i believe the yotes have 8 defensemen with 1-way deals. Someone is going to the AHL with a 1way deal (unless their is a deal)

For a cash-poor franchise it matters. It's also a sort of commitment to the player. If I was the leafs sure, throwing NHL min money to AHLers is fine, but the coyotes cannot operate that way.

I'm sure that a cash-strapped franchise like the Coyotes could also operate by not signing more expensive free agents like Goligoski and Schenn if they were sure that they could just play someone they already have in Dahlbeck and spend the money elsewhere as well right? If Dahlbeck is a sure thing and has the contract already why go out and spend more money to add defensemen? The fact that the Coyotes are adding players is more telling than Dahlbeck having a one-way contract was all I was saying and that having such a deal does not indicate anything about whether he's in the AHL or NHL next year.

Yeah, and I'm not saying he won't be in the AHL, but if he is I think there is a solid chance it would be with another team.
