Just ignore the 2nd draw lol....
They aren't telling you who of the other 8 teams though. They are batching them together... and I think they are also changing the odds? We felt it was easier to just use our normal lottery system, since we finished our regular season and the NHL did not.
The first roll includes team A-H with the same odds as teams 8-15 normally would. In the event one of those placeholder teams wins a lotto spot, they will then have a 2nd draw of the teams who eventually lose in the play in round.
For our purposes nothing fundamentally has changed other than being paired with an NHL team, you should be paired with Team A-H.

That's what I initially thought too, but it doesn't sound like they will let us know which team A-H won the draw.
Also, we need 3 draws to determine our first 3 positions, and from what transpired their eventual 2nd-phase draws would have 1/8 odds for each team, which doesn't work for us.

Show me any proof of that. They've given us the odds for each placeholder position, and haven't lumped them together ever.

If you're worried about the NHL revealing "one of 8 placeholders" won the lottery and not "team B', just plan to mirror NHL's result until that happens. Priority #1 should be using NHL results if compatible and not aasuming they're incompatible based on a hunch.
Whether you initially plan to use NHL results or not, everyone affected will always compare the different outcomes between NHL and BBKL lottos. YoY consistency shouldn't be thrown out the window unless 100% required.

I would have rather used the NHL lottery myself if viable.
But based on the available information it sounds like we would be screwed if the lotteries require a 2nd-phase draw

Please show me that information.

I'm with Jordan on this one.
From all information that's been presented, including the detailed charts showing teams A-H and odds being the same as every other year, an example draw could be:
1. Detroit
2. Team C
3. Anaheim
At which point our lotto winners are:
1. Last place
2. 10th to last place
3. 5th to last
So we would not use the 2nd draw and it would not matter that the NHL 2nd draw would be 1/8 odds on all knocked out teams there. Our lotto winners would be done based on the 1st draw regardless of the outcome.
Doing our own is nice in theory, but it opens the door for 'what if' for no reason. If we do our own every year it would be different but to do it this year when there is no need to, makes little sense to me. Potential bitching and problems outweigh the novelty factor IMO.

we ARE doing it the same way as every year. (odds, etc.)
the nhl is doing it differently.

Their first draw is the same as every other year except of having a team attached to 10th best odds it’s Team C.

If the nhl was going to announce team c won it, then why would they have the 2nd lottery? Otherwise teams would also be saying "what if"
It is more likely they just announce a non-top 7 team won the lotto.
Also, are we sure they haven't changed the odds for the top 7 teams?

Not using the NHL results so it's different, even if run the same way. There will be 2 different outcomes.
Whatever team wins the NHL lotto results but does not here will be bitching and they would have a valid point to raise. I don't see the benefit in opening up that door when everything the NHL has presented and announced tells us their 1st draw will be all we need.
Put a disclaimer if you're worried that if for some reason the NHL does not announce a specific team such as Team B wins a lotto spot and they keep the announcement generic that a play-in team has won a lottery position, then we do our own since we cannot use their results.

Because team C isn’t known at the time of lottery drawing.... so it’s a placeholder until you know which teams are eliminated from play in....

Second lottery because there is no order for those spots right now and they don't want to open up the door that if Team H wins, then the Pens could tank on purpose and take a known lottery pick since the draw is before the play in round is done.

They wouldn't have a valid point. As they are adults, and they would have been ahead of time how things are being done. Unless they are extremely childish, and think the rules laid out beforehand shouldn't count, only when they win.

I mean, you are arbitrarily changing the BBKL lotto procedure for one season for no apparent good reason. Any GM has good reason to be pissed if the NHL results are compatible with our format and aren't used like normal.

They would because there is no reason for us to change how we operate. This idea is a novelty put forth by the CC and not something the league as a whole agreed upon. Until announced otherwise the NHL seems to be giving us all the information we need to run a regular lottery so I would absolutely back a team who gets screwed here.

NHL way is a viable option here and CAN be mirrored if put in some thought
That's all I'll say
As all other dynasty leagues I'm in (2 others) are doing it NHL way, so not impossible
and this:
Whatever team wins the NHL lotto results but does not here will be bitching and they would have a valid point to raise
