Yes, Gunnarson was often, and majority of the case, paired with Phaneuf last year.

Babchuk was playing on the top pairing when he scored 16 goals a few years back. Did that make him a top pairing dman?
Pascal Dupuis plays on Crosbys wing every year, does that make him a first line forward
Same with Bozak centering Kessel and Lupul. Is he a first line centre? Absolutely not.
