I think Okposo can be just as good as Giroux..no way Nick does this deal if Okposo is healthy..I don't think.
this.
if Okposo was healthy there would be no need for this trade...but hes not healthy so Its really not that bad.

that was my thinking man. I bought Okposo at an all time low. and Kadri has not hit his stride yet. I would never get a two for one like this from Nick in 3 weeks when Okposo is back.

Kadri showed tons of signs of superstardom in junior, I watched close to 90% of his games in London since the Leafs drafted him, and live on three occasions. Just because he hasn't broke through in the NHL as a rookie means nothing. The kid has world class hands and vision, but he will need to continue improving his lower body strength and adjusting to the speed of the pro game before his true potential can be realized.

He was voted the most talented stick handler by his coaches and team mates. Simply put Kadri has world class skill, and elite vision, the rest of his game is rough around the edges and in obvious need of improvement, but there is a reason he went 7th in a top heavy draft, skill, and lots of it.

I can name dozens of players with great hands. That doesn't make them successful NHL'ers. I see no signs from Kadri that tell me he will be a great NHL player. I mean Leaf fans were saying the same shit about Steen 5 years ago. "If he just puts it together he'll be a star!"

This isn't the fucking harlem globetrotters. There's more to hockey than stickhandling. And to say he has world class anything is just laughable.
But I get it.. Leafs fans always have blinders on about their prospects.. so I will just leave it at this.

According to my scouting reports, Kadri will be better than Crosby.

Nowhere did anyone say great NHL'er, you are putting words into peoples mouths. The statement made by Cliff and I is that Kadri has world class hands and vision, what he does with that is anyone's guess, but to cap him off as a second liner (who is weak), is just as idiotic as touting him as a future superstar. Furthermore, there is no comparison to be made between Steen the 24th pick, and Kadri the 7th overall pick. They are apples and oranges.
But to be fair to Steen, he matched the production of fellow rookies Jeff Carter, Mike Richards, Ryan Getzlaf and Corey Perry (among others) in 05-06, and was recognized league wide. According to reports, the Flyers offered their second overall pick in 2006 for Steen straight up, and the Oilers offered Pronger in a deal centered around Steen and Kaberle. Since that time Steen's career has faltered, and he has not become the star that many thought he would become, but there was valid reason to believe in him, it's simple to say otherwise in hindsight.

You see no signs from a 19 year old rookie that suggests he will be a star? Hmm, could that be because he is a 19 year old rookie?
I don't know how long you have been watching hockey, but there are innumerable examples of young hockey players who looked mediocre in their first few years, nevermind first year, only to go onto stardom, especially smaller guys. It's not uncommon. That said, Kadri has shown flashes of brilliance, it simply hasn't been sustained from game to game, or even shift to shift.

Again, you are taking the argument out of context. Nowhere in my post did I claim that hockey is all about stickhandling, you rebutted Cliff's argument that Kadri has world class skill, I am providing you evidence from educated hockey coaches, and Kadri's peers that suggest otherwise. That does not mean Kadri will be a world class player, I don't think anyone is suggesting that, but his puck skills and vision are world class, and because of that he was drafted 7th overall. I'm not sure I understand the harlem globetrotter reference, they are essentially actors who perform staged events, but the fact of the matter is that none of them are skilled enough ball players to play professional basketball. Jamario Moon is the only modern day Globe Trotter who I can recall making the show, and Rafer Alston in And 1.

The leafs have a big problem in the department of developing their prospects... you can say the same for Steen who may have had the potential to be just as good as Carter/Perry, but if your organization fails to direct your rookies the right way, or the player himself has not taken his own game to the next level, this is the result. When top 30 players are drafted each year, with the exception to the odd number of true world-class dominating players such as Ovechkin/Crosby/Gretzky/Lemieux etc etc, most 1st round rookies play at a similar pace, and Kadri/Steen/Carter/Perry are no exception to that.
But Carter/Perry stepped up their game be it due to good coaching/developing/training method, and playoff experience (in the case of Anaheim/Philly both getting the taste of the Stanley Cup final in their respective years). Going on with that, I believe good players who were good enough to be drafted in the 1st round has that edge and potential to be that much better in the subsequent seasons once they get that small tiny bit of push factor like being able to compete in the Stanley Cup Finals.

I don't think coaching or development is the reason Perry and Getzlaf (among others) are better hockey players, I think they are better hockey players because they are better hockey players. If there is any complaint against the way the leafs handled Steen, it is that they gave up on him as a top 6 player too soon, but even than, if he were a legit 1st liner he would have demonstrated it in STL.
