unfortunately there was no confirmation on the CC board and it was not 100% consensus.. but I think (especially at this point) that waiver eligible players are fine
to start the season as LTIR replacements, like it was last year iirc
obviously GMs will have to make their roster compliant at the next roster lock as soon as they come off the LTIR cushion

Awesome thanks bud. Missing Huberdeau for 4 is going to suck.

Nate Thompson on LTIR
Thompson will be sidelined for several months after tearing his Achilles tendon during an offseason workout. Ducks general manager Bob Murray announced Tuesday that Thompson, who had three goals and three assists in 49 games last season after missing the first 26 games recovering from surgery on a torn labrum in his shoulder, isn't expected back in uniform before ''the trade deadline,'' which typically falls around March 1.

Question: Does a player have to be put on real life IR for me to place them on IR here? example Jamie McGinn not making the road trip with the Coyotes to the east coast due to injury. Can I place him on IR?

So long as there's documentation of an injury that's enough. Doesn't need to be on IRL-IR.
