ya tony's post mislead me.. i read tony saying moving 2 spots down.. so this trade is from bad to disaster.

it's not like there is only McDavid next year... the only way Scott wins this is if the guy he drafts with 2014 CAR 1st is as good as the early DET pick next season... and the chance of winning by a JT Brown doesn't compensate the risk of losing a McDavid imo.

To me, the top 3 is top tier of this draft. The three scenarios I ran by Shep was either he and I swap picks (#1 for #3), I offered him my pick so he'd have #1 and #3 and the third scenario as you see was me acquiring his pick in exchange for my 1st next year. I can see how the third option was the most appealing for Shep considering the hype around next year's draft.

I'm going to have two of the top three picks in this draft potentially added to my lineup plus I'm happy to get Brown back after I gave him up to Shep last fall plus Ian Cole has a solid chance at being on the Blues third pair depending on what they do in free agency. Plus, Ebert is having a nice postseason with Guelph.

I hope it works out for you Scott.

He has some pretty sick prospects too. Not sure this will be his year for major improments but the next 2 to 3 years I expect a big jump for scotts team.

I think Scott kills this deal. Very smart move by him. If he can keep improving his team through next year he could easily drop his pick out of the top 3. Only time will tell but it's a calculated gamble.

I'm not sure what tells you even pick #4 next year wouldn't be a better asset than this year #3, but the point is what he got imho is not worth giving up the chance to get and trade McDavid (or even Eichel), something that could have turned his franchise around in a way this deal won't even come close.
