Can't blame the players though, unless they want to take the hometown discount - they pay upwards of 50% income tax + another 15% in escrow [**state/province dependent**]... need to take as much as you can whenever you can get it for the mid-level players. I think we'd all be doing the same 100%.

Yep, if a GM is dumb enough to overpay then good on Beleskey for cashing in. I agree he isn't worth it and it's pretty greedy, but I don't have any problems with players being greedy unless it's a Leaf haha.

I tend to agree with this too, never know when an injury hits either and suddenly you're an uneducated 30 year old with no job experience etc etc with fairly limited options if you haven't been smart with your money either. The player's association is also largely behind the contract talks too, not good for the union for guys to take small increases in pay, gotta shoot for the moon.

Ya that's true too.

some guys can build successful careers playing on good teams with better players. Once that player hits UFA and signs elsewhere their true colours come out. We've seen it happen all too often in Toronto.

exactly. no guarantee of income after each contract is up. they have to look out for the future of their families. i blame the idiot GMs who give into the contract demands and agree to them.
