Do people really believe this team is bad enough to draft McDavid, or even that it is the plan? Nonis and Carlyle's jobs depend on this team being competitive. But more than anything, why would you even want the Leafs to tank? We went through that shit in 2008 and 2009, and not only was it not fun, but it did not turn this franchise around. Making smart decisions irrespective of draft position is the way to go.

I'd personally demote Nurse and Draisatl ASAP to get them away from this mess, and look into multiple forward for defense trades. I often despise trading youth for veterans unless you are on the cusp of breaking out, but if the Oilers don't bring in more veterans that can actually play they risk shattering the confidence of the players they hope to develop.

the oilers look awful and i agree with sending draisaitl down as well. that team is a mess and has not improved after 3 1st overall picks. there's a serious need for quality veterans.. especially on defence. i have a feeling that hall will end up asking for a trade in the future and their rebuild will continue for a long time. they need to fire their whole front office as well as eakins IMO. such a mess.

It's remarkable that Lowe, McTavish and Co. still have job's, isn't it?

That is what rebuilding is... There are no guarantees of a top pick at the end of it, and even if you get one there is no guarantee that said player will be a difference maker. Just look at Edmonton and Florida, you can't tank harder than those two organizations have, and yet they still have nothing to show for it.

Conversely, look at Dallas and Anaheim, two of the best up and coming teams in the NHL, and neither had to tank to get where they are now. The Leafs, despite their flaws, have alot of good young talent, the goal should be to add to it, not tear it down and start again.

Id find it easier to get excited if they had fired randy. I always thought marc crawford would be a good fit with this group.

Certainly management decisions have made it easy to be disillusioned with the direction of the team, but it's at least comforting to remember that luck plays such a big part in the outcome of hockey games that there is still hope for something good to happen. It's not good long-term team management, but it really is true that if you make the playoffs, who knows what can happen in that small of a sample.

lol it really is. lowe is awful and has been there far too long. there isn't a sadder team in the nhl than the oilers really.

Toronto has zero chance at McDavid outside of beating pretty big odds in the draft lottery. Buffalo makes Toronto look like Chicago.

The new lottery odds give the last place team only a 1 in 5 chance at McDavid. Tanking isn't as advantageous with only a 20% chance at #1.
