I agree top 5 for him easy. I could see a team like Carolina taking him early but I could also foresee a slide for him for reasons you mentioned. Who ever takes the risk will land an elite talent. He better come over to the NHL would be a waste for him to waste away in Russia.
I also have Nurse, and Z in my top 10 not Risto though. I love quite a few Dman in this draft which is awesome as I have the 25th and 37th pick and BBKL always takes forwards too early so I will likely land a nice D prospect with one of those two picks. I'd cream my pants if someone like Pulock or Morrissey fell to 25. I got Leddy at 27 one year so it could happen as we always under value D prospects on draft day.

Having two top 5 picks probably makes you the guy in the power position in this draft. Had I held onto to #1, I could've held the trump card over you but I think if I'm down to 2 or 3, you're the guy with the biggest chips. I wouldn't blame you if you stood pat and make both picks...you're potentially get two NHLers towards next year...but you could also clean up with a trade or two. You're in a very enviable position.
I can guarantee I will not be in the market to trade up...there is great value in any pick in the top 4 or 5 spots. If there isn't a great deal there, I'd be very happy to make my pick and add a great piece to my team.

If you've got multiple 1sts, he'd be worth taking a flier on for the chance he does come over eventually. Since I've got just the one 1st, take a guess at what I (don't) plan on doing.

i think one of the biggest mistakes basement bbkl teams make is refusing to trade their high picks.

No, he can't because I am going to be giving up Hedman for 8th overall to help my team improve

I agree. A top 5 pick lands you multiple high end pieces. say you are bottom 3 two years in a row and trade the pick both times, you could possibly have up to 6 high end prospects instead of 2. Makes a lot of sense to me.

I think the quality of players that will arise from this draft are the kind that become simply too expensive to trade for within reason. If I felt otherwise, I would probably move my picks. Maybe I'll move my 2014 pick come that time to finish filling up holes on my roster, but what my team needs is exactly what is available in this draft.

to be fair, I think the 'big three' in this draft is pretty standout, even if I was third instead of being possibly first I wouldn't feel like there's much of a gap and yeah like you said, wouldn't want to move up.

I think the top 2 picks have the most value. BBKL is sick and would rather take the forward then the best player. I am betting Jones gets taken at 3. Would be crazy but I bet it is true.

I traded Tuomo Ruutu last year for 8th overall straight and was called an idiot. I am betting you will find your idiot out there once again and land a similar player. Who knows maybe I will get caught in the hype again and be that idiot myself lol.

and by "basement team" i didnt mean me. im bottom 10 but asset rich - i'm talking teams who are consistently at the bottom with little assets to show for it. in this instance, refusing to trade high draft picks is foolish.

I think I'm more asset rich than I actually am, so I'm pretty comfortable not moving my picks.

I think the value of high picks has changed dramatically. I had 2nd and 5th overall last year and shopped them hard but never got anything even remotely close to what I thought they might be valued at. Borderline Top 6 forwards at best.
