1. Fowler is the fastest from point A to B, Gormley is the best skater, agility and skating aren't the same. Need look no further than Niedermayer for proof of this. Gormley has a good long, clean stride that is effortless, although I'd be lying if I said Fowler wasn't a world class skater.

2. Gudbranson can't hit the net to save his life, hence the low goal totals in his OHL career.

3. There is no consensus on who the best defenceman is...So your argument is wrong.

Well i guess the words "franchise Defenseman need to be clarified" It may be tossed around too loosely. When i think Franchise defenseman I think of Pronger, Doughty, Keith, Chara, Lidstrom, Nieds etc. And most recently I personally feel that Meyers is and will be a franchise d-man. Were any of these players forecasted as franchise d-men? What is the main difference between a #1 d-man and a franchise D-man?

basically what im saying is i think their all overrated, none of them will be a true number 1.
decent players but weak draft year for defencemen compared to years past.

If the 2009 draft were re-done I doubt Kane would be going top 5...Taylor Hall is the superior player, even last season (at a younger age), ditto with Seguin (considering he's a 92 birthdate). If anyone has a claim to that spot it's the young Brayden Schenn, and imo he doesn't even get top 2 in this draft.

As for Billy, if Tarasenko doesn't go top 5 Kulikov doesn't have a shot in hell...

Pronger, Doughty, and Niedermayer were forcasted as franchise defenceman, Myers was considered the project defenceman with franchise upside. Lidstrom is not the best example as he was drafted at a time were most Euro's didn't come over, and scouting was not as widespread, thus there was little hype surrounding Euro's even if they had franchise potential.

Keith is the only player on your list who came out of nowhere, so to speak.

I would disagree with that statement, Fowler has as much, if not more offensive upside. Gudbranson has the size, leadership, grit package that scouts love, and Kulikov can't match. Gormley is the most comparable to Kulikov, smart all around player with the ability to score goals.

He was the 5th dman selected in a decent draft year for defence (great year for canadian forwards)... and this year is loaded with very nice dmen, definitely the best group of americans EVER, I guess you could argue its a weak year for european defence-men...

but i highly doubt Kulikov breaks top 10 in this draft... these are 3 pretty kick ass dmen, and there are a few others knocking on the door.

and I seriously doubt that b.schenn goes above e.kane in any draft, no matter who is picking... goal #'s and impact are notably different

Its getting hot in here...the prospect passion is just boiling. I would lay money that a pick in the 10-20 range will probably turn out to be jsut as good as anyone in top 5 and maybe better. Heck throw in the odd second rounders too. Fuck, why did i pay so much for a draft pick. making me sick now...

He played on a stacked Vancouver Giants team...Not to take anything away from him, but fucking Casey Pierro Zabotel broke 100 on that team. He was a third liner in the WJC, very good, but still only a third liner, and was very underwhelming on Atlanta this season, although IMO he was rushed and poorly developed.

Besides he's not the only one to put up big numbers...Taylor Hall has put up insane numbers his entire OHL career, and won the Mem Cup MVP twice. Seguin dominated as a 16/17 year old, and Brayden Schenn has a longer track record of sucess in junior than Kane (08 WHL ROY). Similarly, MSP has put up unheard of numbers as a youngster in the SEL. I can expand this argument to include the likes of Kadri, Connolly and Tarasenko. Evander Kane could be a great player, but by no means is he a lock, or a superior prospect to any of the afformentioned guys.

well... the Giants were actually that stacked.. but in many ways not... CPZ lead the CHL in scoring did he not? and yet Evander scored 48 goals in 60 games as a 17 year old... burst onto being the teams #1 weapon...

The only other guy in the top 10 in last years draft who is ALMOST 2010 eligible is Schenn.. who was picked after Kane IIRC... so if they were both 2010 eligible why would that change? because you consider Kane rushed now? he got injured... but damn did he look good @ WC (as an 18 you'll note... in fact, he's 18 until training camp).

Kane played on the WHL line in WJC with Sonne & Benn... and it was our best 5v5 line (benn & kane were insane IIRC)... but your right... he didn't tear apart juniors again like Hall or Schenn... or Kadri or Seguin... is there any doubt that he would have ?
