Re: GO SOUTH AFRICA!
South Africa made them look good in the first half, completely played to their strength. Mexico features one of the strongest technical passing in the tournament, by playing one forward and pushing the mid back of the half line RSA gave Mexico time and space to set up their attack which is the last thing you do against a strong passing team. They were supposed to stiffle the middle of the field, or set up their offense to take away time and space from the Mexican defenders and generate a counter attack when possible. South Africa is not a strong technical team, I can't count how many times they were beat one on one on routine plays. Thankfully the RSA coaching staff adjusted at about the 15 minute mark and began attacking the ball carriers past half, and creating set pieces through the off wing.kyuss wroteCOLONMexico looks pretty good
There is a reason all African teams play offensive soccer, it's because it's their strength, they are typically fast and athletic, and less technical, hence the style of play. South Africa got away from it in the first half, and almost gave up a goal because of it.

No way, much more exciting when the home team makes it through. Plus this is a HUGE event for the people of South Africa, especially the impoverished African Americans, they need something to cheer for. Plus I'm South Africanhong57 wroteCOLONtied 0-0

Re: GO SOUTH AFRICA!
...@$#%$#^ #4 fucked the entire nation of RSA on that play...The entire defense pushes up for the offside trap and that dumbass pushes back to defend a header which he missed by a country mile, whats the result? Why a tying goal of course...
Terrible result for South Africa all things considered. Assuming France wins tonight I'm not liking their chances of coming out of this group.

thanks to hockey i find the pace of soccer too slow and hence not liking it much (even though people in HK only watch soccer i don't understand why!)
i only watch the main events

Re: GO SOUTH AFRICA!
I just went to lunch with some of the guys from the office...went to a Mexican spot. They had the game on all the TVs and a small group of Mexican dudes had their eyes glued to the game. We got there just after Mexico tied it in the 79th minute. It's a mild victory for the South African side to get a point out of it...I didn't expect them to get out of their group.

thing about soccer that pisses me off the most is guys acting like a pack of C4 went off beside them when they get touched.hong57 wroteCOLONvery exciting game...

It truly is disgraceful and a big shame how much diving and embellishing there is in the game of soccer because it does produce some of the more pretty plays in sports.

Re: GO SOUTH AFRICA!
The hosts are ALWAYS heavy favourites to make it out of the opening group. To put things into perspective, in the last 8 tournaments the host country has NEVER lost the opening match, and made it to the elimination round 7 of 8 tries if I'm not mistaken.Shoalzie wroteCOLONI just went to lunch with some of the guys from the office...went to a Mexican spot. Re: GO SOUTH AFRICA!
That's too broad a statement, I've seen a ton of slow ass hockey games, particulaurly trap style hockey, and I've seen some fast paced and exciting soccer (triangle offense of Barcelona or free flowing Brazillian style soccer). It really depends on who's playing, as opposed to the sport. You also have to consider Soccer is played on a massive field, whereas hockey in NA is played on a small ice surface.hong57 wroteCOLONvery exciting game...

You seem to be very north americanized though, so I'm not surprised by your comments. Most people here hate anything that isn't fast paced every second or have physical contact, I think it's stupid personally, as soccer is my favourite sport, and I also quite enjoy baseball, but to each his own.
Re: GO SOUTH AFRICA!
The truth is south africa isn't as strong a host as others have been in the past (save for south korea), and I don't think the oddmakers are putting them as favourites to get out of that group.MSP4LYFE wroteCOLONThe hosts are ALWAYS heavy favourites to make it out of the opening group.
