Just goes to show you that Nashville plans on riding Rinne for at least the next two years. There is no way that he agrees to a 3 year deal knowing he could be the starter in the near future.lightupdadarkness wroteCOLONSaros 1.5AAV for 3 years what a fucking steal

LOL there is no goalie that would sign for THREE years at that kind of money if he knew he had a shot at the starter's role. He's the backup for two more, then he'll take over in the third looking to get paid after that.lightupdadarkness wroteCOLONPretty much the opposite. Lolololol plenty of young goalies have signed for cheap and played their way to bigger paydays. Kinda how being an RFA works. Not hating - simply tempering expectations of some monster starter at 1.5 million. Rinne is still the king.lightupdadarkness wroteCOLONLolololol plenty of young goalies have signed for cheap and played their way to bigger paydays. Kinda how being an RFA works. I know ur not ur just trying to sell Pekka I understand. Tho actually last time we all checked there’s only one king and it sure as hell ain’t Pekka
Re: NHL Transactions, Injuries & Rumours
If they were planning to ride Rinne, don't you think they would have worked out an extension by now? That's some weird backwards logic to lock up your backup long term, but not have a deal in place with your starter? Rinne may find another job, but his time appears to be winding down in Nashville.Da_Hawks wroteCOLONJust goes to show you that Nashville plans on riding Rinne for at least the next two years. If NSH has a good year I expect Rinne will be back.
Re: NHL Transactions, Injuries & Rumours
Didn't rinne just win the vezina? He's the starter until he has a bad year.

Then why sign Saros to a long term extension and nothing tor Rinne going into the final year of his deal? We'll see what happens.Matthew wroteCOLONDidn't rinne just win the vezina? He's the starter until he has a bad year.
Re: NHL Transactions, Injuries & Rumours
3 years isn't exactly long term.
And there is still a lot of time for rinne to sign an extension.

1.5 mil is third-string money. I'd argue they dont have much confidence in Saroos

Gotta love when the trolls come out
Re: NHL Transactions, Injuries & Rumours
i'll admit, wheni saw the deal, made me think that Rinne was gonna get Re-upped for a short term deal soon enough.

So if Rinne does get extended, does that make you the troll?lightupdadarkness wroteCOLONGotta love when the trolls come out
Re: NHL Transactions, Injuries & Rumours
hey.. honestly.. if saros worth 3mil aav but he'd agree to 1mil.. then why not? sure.. you'd have to think he'd be back up.. but anytime the starter goes down and he goes on to play well and takes the job full time.. then suddenly you have a starter with low cap hit and you can improve other areas immediately and go for it all.. just like murray just takes over.. who cares about the pay.. if you can sign him cheaper for a few years and if he becomes a starter full time he will get pay a few years later.. and if they resign rinne later they can even ask for a cheaper deal from him too.. so why not..

Re: NHL Transactions, Injuries & Rumours
That seems like a typical bridge contract for a young #2 goalie.
A guy like Mrazek got a cheap one year deal off his ELC before he got a 2-year deal for a decent amount. He flopped last year and he was only able to get a 1 year deal on the open market. You leave it up to a young goalie outperform his contract. They typically have a good shelf life that they'll get a shot at signing a couple of healthy contracts in the prime of their career.
No teams wants to pay upwards of $10 million for their goalie tandem. You see a guy like Bernier sign a $3 million a year deal to be essentially a 1A goalie in Detroit. He's more established so he can command more on the open market. You see Hellebuyck come off his ELC and go right into healthy starter money after a Vezina-worthy season. The Jets don't want to carry an overpriced backup in Mason so his contract gets shipped out of town.
Saros will get paid when he gets the bulk of the starts. I think Saros is a guy you'll want to have in a dynasty league but don't think the Preds won't ride Rinne until the wheels fall off him. One bad playoff doesn't usually sink a goalie. Rinne is definitely playing for his next deal.

Right so give the player more money because you have confidence in him? How is that good cap management. It is the GM's job to get players to sign for as cheap as they can.The BBKL Insider wroteCOLON1.5 mil is third-string money. I'd argue they dont have much confidence in Saroos
