Boston would like to sign FA forward, Jeremy Colliton. He is waiver exempt and will be assigned to the minors.

Not allowed, the window for claiming un-drafted, but still draft eligible players has closed. As typical for the BBKL, we mimic the NHL in this situation, and the window for signing un-drafted players is rather short. He is 2011 eligible here in the BBKL.

Can we have the rules laid out in the CBA? I was told earlier that they merely had to be signed.

Na. There was a window where he could be signed before the regular season started (there is a date discussed somewhere), however that time has come and gone -> 2011 draft eligible now.

Some kind of consistency would be nice.

I can't claim Mac Carruth because he was dropped in this league after being drafted, he must go back into the draft.
I can't claim Oliver Gabriel because he signed in real life ... but was told that he wasn't signed/drafted in the BBKL

That doesn't make sense. Like I told you on MSN. Half the time we follow the NHL rules, half the time we make up our own and none of it is documented

Both of those rulings are consistent with real NHL rules, because you don't understand doesn't mean your right to criticize.

Released players that are draft eligible go back into the draft.

Un-drafted players who didn't sign during that very brief signing window go back into the draft pool.

100% consistent with real NHL.

How is it consistent in the NHL? Gabriel was signed in the real NHL. How is he going to be drafted?

He wasn't claimed during that same window here in the BBKL (just like certain drafted players were drafted in the NHL were not drafted in the BBKL), so as per his [their] age -> back into our entry draft.

Doesn't an un-drafted player, that is still draft eligible, but is now signed, go into our waiver draft?

Not if he's still entry draft eligible.

But he has a contract. That's retarded.

Perhaps that's worthy of a discussion... my understanding was that entry draft eligibility takes precedence over waiver draft, however the situation does raise questions, as we cannot allow signings of un-drafted BBKL players who are still draft eligible.... and its very much a hindsight adjustment to allow signings of NHL signed un-drafted, unsigned BBKL players. Perhaps holding for waiver draft is more appropriate then holding for entry draft...

Your analysis I think of the situation is correct.

If a player is signed by an NHL team during the brief summer window but not signed in our league he should be eligible for our entry draft. Think about it from the NHL perspective, if a player was not signed in that time (as they weren't in our league) you can't offer them a contract later (ala claiming him off waivers). Its worth a discussion if you want to deviate from this and make that person waiver draft eligible (still not eligible for day to day waivers), and treat them like a college FA. But that would be us deviating from NHL rules not the other way around.

We are following NHL rules, no team would be able to claim that player at this time in the season.
