Fair enough...I apologize to Kareem for the inconvenience and this is a good thing to know in the future.

My original intention for those three guys was to try to trade any or all of them before noon/12:30 and then I'd throw whomever is left them on waivers to send them to the minors (or to be claimed). Kareem came to me with the offer even after the 1:00 deadline because he really needed players. I didn't know of a rule on guys with "pending" waiver status...obviously, I wouldn't have traded them if they were actually on the waiver wire to be claimed.

Again, apologies...I wasn't trying anything funny. I just wasn't sure if there was a rule for this sort of thing.

Unequivocally a no go. You cannot trade assets that are on waivers, even if they are not technically on waivers until the next day at noon.

one thing i got clear from that CC thread is that they are indeed on waivers as soon as they are waived.

What was explained to by Mike when he asked me to handle the waiver wire to go with the noon-to-noon waiver window. Obviously, I know that waiving a guy after noon means they are on waivers then but teams can't put in claims until the following day at noon. I've been consistent with that all season. I don't know if I was doing something against the rules or just was something that wasn't actually defined a rule until now. Like I said, it's good to know that this is the case.

I think we can take a page out of the real NHL for this one. Think of it this way: a team puts a couple guys on waivers and sends in the paperwork to the league office. They can't turn around and then trade those guys because the paperwork is already into head office.

Correct. I was just trying to point out that there's no difference between the noon to noon clock and the moment they are placed on waivers.

So if i waive a player at 2 pm on Monday, he is on waivers until Noon Wed, correct? And based on what you are saying, is that teams cannot make posts stating intentions to claim, until noon Tuesday? Is that not creating extra work in time management? What possible issues could arrise from allowing people to place claims as soon as the post is made from a GM waiving a player, regardless of the time? The time management should really be for the GM waiving a player. If you miss the noon deadline, you are exposing player X to waivers for possibly up to 48 hours instead of 24. If you want to be successful in sending a player to the minors, it would be wise to waive Player X before noon or else face an extended period of exposure. That is how is see it anyway...

It's something we can put into a CC discussion but my thoughts should be that there is the 24 hour window but claims can be made as soon as a player is put on waivers.

The idea of a consistent noon-to-noon waiver window allows teams to always know that if a guy goes on waivers they'll know when they can claim them. I think I've been on the ball when it's come to sticking to that format. We've had several cases of teams waiving players in the early afternoon but they don't go on waivers until the next day at noon.

What I didn't like about last year, it seemed like the windows of when guys were on waivers wasn't very inconsistent and players on waivers would slip through the cracks...ie--sometimes not even be exposed on waivers nor was there proper notification made of when a guy was on waivers. I'm consistent with posting something in the waiver claim thread when the someone is available to be claimed and then I post something saying whether or not a guy cleared or was claimed and I've kept records of those who cleared so we all know which guys that are re-entry waiver exempt.

At this point in the game, there's no sense in changing what I've been doing midseason...I think this process has gone well.
