I don't see it... They are the same type of defenceman, only difference is that Carkner is going to have alot of opportunity on a shallow Islanders blueline. Peckham was the 7th defenceman in EDM last season, and they have since acquired Justin Schultz. Not to mention that: Colten Teubert, Martin Marincin, David Musil, Martin Gernat and Oscar Klefbom are one year older, and one step closer to the NHL.

Carkner's contract and term also lead to me to believe that the Islanders have a plan for him. Whereas Peckham's one year pact provides more uncertainty.

Carkner is way better then Peckham - he can actually play position, at least a little, and clearly takes pride in standing up for his teammates.

Hey... Carkner must have taken pride in all those punches his face took from Orr.

He was better in the past due to playing on an inferior club, which lead to more ice time. The roles have reversed now, expect Carkner to have a very productive BBKL season.

This is a pretty subjective statement. You have no statistical grounds to believe Carkner will kill it ---> just that he may be given the ice - which also I doubt the Isles see him as anything more than a 6th D that will step in in games vs opponents with a fighter. Meanwhile, I know Peckham took a step back. But given the ridiculous numbers a year ago there are higher "odds" of him putting up solid h2h numbers than Carkner suddenly becoming a better player than he is. This is of course my opinion. But regardless, I don't own Peckham anymore. Let's talk about how good Hejduk is ;).

i'd take Carkner over Peckham everyday of the week; in both the BBKL and NHL.

Peckham had good numbers and was god awful. So bad that he barely got the play the next year.

There is nothing subjective about projecting an increase in production with more ice time, and a bigger role. Furthermore, I did not say that Carkner would kill it, a little bit of reading comprehension would go a long way, Shiv.

When Peckham plays he is a productive H2H asset. However, Theo Peckham is a terrible player in real life, and that impacts his ability to get in the lineup consistently, and in turn produce. I'm not sure if you are deliberately ignoring that fact, or simply don't watch the Oilers play regularly.
