International Scouting Services 2012 Mock Draft
1. Edmonton: Nail Yakupov (Sarnia Sting). The Oilers will play around with their options but Yakupov is too good to pass on. The
young and rich get younger…and richer…
2. Columbus: Ryan Murray (Everett Silvertips). The Blue Jackets have always looked for offense and taken risks in the draft,
Murray is about as far from a risk as possible and sets Columbus on proper course.
3. Montreal: Mikhail Grigorenko (Quebec Remparts). The Habs look down the road to a player who already understands what it
means to play in the hockey crazy province. Mikhail can be the big playmaker they need in the middle.
4. Islanders: Filip Forsberg (Leksands). A beast on the puck, the Islanders could possibly jump on a quality defender here, but
Forsberg adds some lethal punch to thier offense.
5. Toronto: Alex Galchenyuk (Sarnia Sting). Considered a reach by some at this point, and a steal by others, Leafs go for the home
run with a big time forward.
6. Anaheim: Jacob Trouba (US NTDP). Hoping for one of the top forwards, Ducks settle on best player available and solidify what
is becoming one the best up and coming defensive corps in the NHL.
7. Minnesota: Morgan Rielly (Moose Jaw Warriors). They put serious consideration into Teravainen, but ultimately go with a
defensive playmaker to boost their already strong forward prospect pool.
8. Carolina: Griffin Reinhart (Edmonton Oil Kings). After taking slick offensive blueliner Ryan Murphy last year, Reinhart isn’t just
the best available player but a perfect pairing for that heady boldness.
9. Winnipeg: Teuvo Teravainen (Jokerit). Jets look for another success from Finland, Teravainen’s skill set and tremendous
development through the season are just too good to overlook at this point. Matt Dumba is another possibility at this spot.
10. Tampa Bay: Matt Dumba (Red Deer Rebels). The Lightning are ecstatic to see the gamebreaking offensive defender still
floating around at this spot. His hard hitting dynamic offensive ability suits the Tampa prospect pool very well.
11. Washington (Colorado): Cody Ceci (Ottawa 67’s). Powerful two-way defender a very nice addition to a team with so many
slick speedsters in their prospect pool.
12. Buffalo: Olli Maatta (London Knights). Sabres can’t pass up on Maatta, especially after his dynamic and dominant playoff
performance in the OHL and Memorial Cup. Radek Faksa garners some consideration here as well.
13. Dallas: Pontus Aberg (Djugarden). Speedy outside shooter gives Dallas some much needed offensive depth, but also
improves their team speed and helps vary their attacking capabilities moving forward.
14. Calgary: Slater Koekoek (Peterborough Petes). Maatta would have been the perfect fit here, but the Flames don’t need to
scramble with very good offensive defenders still on the board. They have calculated gambles available with Koekoek, Finn and
Pouliot still on the board.
15. Ottawa: Brendan Gaunce (Belleville Bulls). The Sens smashed a home run with Zibanejad last year and have seen their
defensive prospects emerge well. Gaunce fits their strategy and needs. He makes them a very difficult team to play against in the
near future.
16. Washington: Zemgus Girgensons (Dubuque Saints). Gaunce would have been the desired pick here but Caps aren’t too upset
with Girgensons still available. Adding some fire and grit down the middle to a puck moving defender makes this a big draft day win.
17. San Jose: Radek Faksa (Kitchener Rangers). Big offensive body a very good fit for Sharks organization, a team that has done
well at developing and cultivating this type of player in the past.
18. Chicago: Matthew Finn (Guelph Storm). Very reliable two-way defender with leadership capabilities and tremendous potential
makes Chicago scouts grin ear to ear when they see him still on the board this deep into 1st round.
19. Tampa Bay (Detroit): Derrick Pouliot (Portland Winterhawks). Another offensive minded defender that's too good to pass up
with this pick. Add these two to Hedman and Barberio and Tampa’s PP potential won’t just be about Stamkos for long.
20. Philadelphia: Tom Wilson (Plymouth Whalers). A tough and gritty power forward, Wilson fits the stereotypical Flyers mould,
which is the type of player Philly fans love.
21. Buffalo (Nashville): Martin Frk (Halifax Mooseheads). Perhaps a little off the board but Sabres covet a shooter with some
sandpaper and thier quality scouting staff are too wise to wait for their next pick to snag Frk.
22. Pittsburgh: Nicolas Kerdiles (US NTDP). Can play Center and the wing and has very good offensive potential. After taking
several defenders high in previous drafts, Kerdiles fits the organizational need for the Penguins at this point.
23. Florida: Hampus Lindholm (Rogle). Adding another capable two-way defender who isn’t far away from being ready to play at
the NHL level is a huge victory for the Panthers at this position.
24. Boston: Ludvig Bystrom (Modo). An intelligent two-way defender who can distribute the puck quickly and effectively is exactly
what the Bruins covet and exactly what they get with Bystrom.
25. Saint Louis: Malcom Subban (Belleville Bulls) .Simple case of taking the best player available. Blues have great depth at the
position but can’t pass up taking the 1st goaltender in this draft with many of their other targets off the board.
26. Vancouver: Dalton Thrower (Saskatoon Blades). Tough as nails defender who will go all out for his team and can produce
offensively as well, doesn’t hurt that he’s a local boy. An absolute perfect fit at this position.
27. Rangers: Henrik Samuelsson (Edmonton). Son of former Ranger Ulf Samuelsson and could prove to be a steal for the
Rangers. Another serious possibility here would be young Swedish netminder Oscar Dansk who has the potential to be the best
Swedish netminder since Lundqvist.
28. Phoenix: Scott Laughton (Oshawa Generals). Hard-nosed offensive player- has a little Mike Richards in his game, something
that the Coyotes covet after bowing out to Richards and the Kings in the Conference finals this year.
29. New Jersey: Adam Pelech (Erie Otters). Big rangy defender that has impressed a lot of people in the second half of the season.
Adam might not be available here, but he would make a great partner for Adam Larsson or Jon Merrill in a few short years.
30. Los Angeles: Sebastian Collberg (Vastra). His size scares some teams off, but the reward is worth the risk for the Kings who
can afford to let the speedy Collberg gain confidence in the Elitserien for a few years before calling the slick playmaker over.

LOVE the draft, even more so when its outcome is difficult to predict like this year.
Hopefully changes with the new CBA will be minimal.
As for that mock, with its Aberg position it's like it was made in November 2011 instead of May 2012.
Also, i wouldn't call Collberg a playmaker and he really doesn't look like the kind of 1st round pick Lombardi makes; he should be gone way before that anyway.

i know it was taken from may ISS, i simply stated it was surprising to see Aberg that high, that's where you could often find him in november, not nowadays.
