Ya, Scott wins. This deal just gives me 5.8M in cap room despite having the best roster in my division. That is a dangerous amount of power.

Given Scott should be rebuilding, I believe this is a poor move for him. He gives up roster depth and 2 2nds, and imo, Ekblad will be as good/better bbkl'er than Subban in the future, while having a lot less cap for the next few years, which would make him more valuable in a trade than subban.

Unless Scott is planning on moving Subban for a package of high end prospects? Either way, given im holding Scotts 2017 1st, I actually like this deal for me.

On the other hand, shiv is in win now mode, so its probably good for him as subban and ekblad should be somewhat similar next year, but he now has 5 million in cap space and 3 other pieces to help him upgrade the roster.

It was either the two picks or Marc Methot (which cost me Brandon Carlo and Oscar Lindberg). Byron was basically a throw in. Ekblad is going to be very good but as I said to Shiv...but how good?

Shiv certainly had his reason to make this move...his teams are known for being full of very solid H2H players with reasonable cap hits. I kinda wondered why he got Subban to begin with.

For me, he's 26 and very much in his prime. The only pieces I would've considered moving Ekblad or Bennett was for proven quality players in their prime. Subban's resale value is unknown but I'm not looking to move him now. He's my new #1 defenseman.

Yes, I'm building but I'm adding pieces to make me far more competitive. I want to add quality young players along the way but I'm also getting tired of being an easy win for everyone else.

Unless you are planning on breaking up subban for multiple high end prospects (alas Kane for Nylander, Morrissey, Kamenev, Samuelsson) then I believe this is a step backwards given your situation.
