Ya, my team doesn't hit lol
Re: Trade: VAN/NJD
KapG wroteCOLONI think Matt Martin might out hit Clutterbuck this year.
4.42 hits (336 total last year in 76 games) per game for clutterbuck at 15.50 toi per game.
4.39 hits (299 total last year in 68 games) per game for martin at 10.57 toi per game.
But watch them play and you'd see a major difference.... one is NYI where every fucking thing is a hit, other actually throws that many hits.

Re: Trade: VAN/NJD
Not to mention that Clutterbuck is a superior hockey player, thus warranting higher minutes and gp. Matt Martin is at risk of demotion every year the Islanders get better.
Re: Trade: VAN/NJD
This is another category where I am fairly confident. 1 forward who doesn't really hit much, 1 dman. Depth of physicality and hoping some of the young kids pick up their hit totals with their newfound frames/weight... and then consider 300 less gp last year (with current rosters), down 400 hits - and I believe some up and downs will be coming. Meaning in any given week it'll be a contest.Mike wroteCOLONI dunno about that..The Devil wroteCOLONI'm big time high on Ryan White.. kid's gonna be a periph beast. Aint nobody touching my team in the hits cat, not even close lol
Add in the upcoming Kareem (and formerly/potentially shook+ shiv) and you have 3/5 gm's who are 'close' enough that it could be a category worth watching.
Edit: after looking at the names on the roster I checked the team totals:
NYI with a massive 2829. TOR in second with 2758, NJD, BOS, BUF, MTL, VAN, COL and TBL all 2000+, now some control for GP is needed as all but one of those team (me) had 1500+gp last year (NYI with #1 @ 1766).
well... sorry for doing this in a weird un-ordered thought, but going to do the hits/gp:
NYI: 2829 hits in 1766 GP = 1.60
TOR: 2758 hits in 1606 GP = 1.72
NJD 2645 hits in 1651 GP = 1.60
BOS 2504 hits in 1740 GP = 1.44
BUF 2419 hits in 1720 GP = 1.41
MTL 2316 hits in 1557 GP = 1.49
VAN 2219 hits in 1571 GP = 1.41
COL 2174 hits in 1607 GP = 1.35
TBL 2046 hits in 1381 GP = 1.48
----------------------
LAK 1807 hits in 1652 GP = 1.09
----------------------
PIT 1279 hits in 1142 GP = 1.11
----------------------
NSH 1224 hits in 1123 GP = 1.09
For most of those top teams, it'll be a GP contest between their hitters. Looks like quiet a few teams could be contending with the category each week though.
Re: Trade: VAN/NJD
^I'm sure glad I started that.. haha.
Re: Trade: VAN/NJD
fuck hits lol. I gained in shtoi/g/a/pts/stpts/sog this offseason and what did it cost me? only hits. I am actually better in every cat than last year other than hits because players that hit cost wayy too much. IMO hits are single handedly the most over rated stat in bbkl because everyone thinks hits determine h2h value, its one cat lol.
Re: Trade: VAN/NJD
i generally look over hits. my eyes immediately pan to shtoi and bs when looking for periphs
Re: Trade: VAN/NJD
THIS. Hits alone (i.e., Ryan White, Scott?) shouldn't have much value IMO. If the hits comes with someone who does a little bit of everything, it's infinitely more valuable - I'd rather have a soft player who scores and hits 150+ SHTOI than a hitter who hits less than a minute of SHTOI per game. See: Korpikoski. When you add players like that, it naturally adds up.shooker wroteCOLONfuck hits lol. I gained in shtoi/g/a/pts/stpts/sog this offseason and what did it cost me? only hits. Re: Trade: VAN/NJD
I actually disagree about NYI being a stat whore team. If you say LAK or MIN are then yes totally as those teams get given everything but NYI is pretty mid range. In fact with my three NYI last year I swore at the stats man multiple times for missing a hit whereas I was like what thats a hit for burns. Martin might out hit Clutts this year but that is because Clutter is a big time player for minny and actually has some skill where as Martin is there too hit and create energy alone.Nick wroteCOLONKapG wroteCOLONI think Matt Martin might out hit Clutterbuck this year.

Every leaf fan here will remember the game Martin was credited with 8 hits and no one could recall a single one. IIRC he had a 14 or something insane versus ALT...
Re: Trade: VAN/NJD
It was 14 against the Leafs. It was the game Kessel scored the game-winner on Montoya. I know, I looked at it too and thought to myself, "No fucking way."Nick wroteCOLONEvery leaf fan here will remember the game Martin was credited with 8 hits and no one could recall a single one. I remember joe bowen and Millen yapping on and on for around a month how Martin was getting credited with an incorrect amount of hits after his game of 14 or w.e it was. Pure bullshit. Watch him play, he throws a hit a shift at least.

BUT...but.... I've never asked..
oh.
Re: Trade: VAN/NJD
hes good h2h, shit in real life... We inquire about him because he is cheap and puts up decent h2h numbers, not because we think he is a good player. How about you give martin a chance to grow a little before you call him just a guy who is there to hit and create energy. He put up some decent numbers in his last year of Jr and actually has a nice set of hands on him for a "tough guy".
PS. Clutterbuck only had 4 more points than martin did in his rookie season and he played 12 more games.

If all he turns out to be is a guy who puts up around 200 pim and 330+ hits while potting around 18ish points and 1min shtoi per game, Ill be fine with that.
Lets not act like he can't grow a bit more offensively either. Whatever though, once again ill take his 300+ hits and 200 + pims in a full 82 game season. This is a fantasy league that counts those stats and he does a pretty damn good job of it.

The higher GP was actually a result of Martin not starting the year with the Islanders. Once he was called up, he stuck.MSP4LYFE wroteCOLONNot to mention that Clutterbuck is a superior hockey player, thus warranting higher minutes and gp.
