And anyways, Trocheck is currently a shadow of the player he was 2 seasons ago

I don't they view it that way. They had it in their minds they wanted to rid themselves of Trocheck as he and Q never really saw eye to eye it seems. Carolina was probably the only team that met their very specific asking price.

Two 2nd rounders is an acceptable price to me...last year would've been the year to trade him but thankfully ol' Kenny has a soft spot for his former players. Maybe Helm or Abdelkader can be moved for a handful of magic beans.

As I said, Pageau seems to fit the Islanders/Trotz system. Good 2-way center but not an exceptional offensive player. He's their new Frans Nielsen.

The Kreider (non) trade makes plenty of sense for the Rangers considering how close they are to being a playoff team. If you're a rotten team like the Red Wings, you consider moving top guys because it'll be multiple years until they're relevant again. For the Rangers, Kreider would be a piece you'd want to acquire to insulate your young players. I really like the Rangers core and this is with Kakko struggle out of the gate. Just wait until it starts clicking for him.
