BBKL policy for Centers and Wingers

____________________________________________________________________________________________________

In the CC we think to have found a good compromize for the lingering argument of forwards positions and FOW.

There is no perfect solution, but the policy we are going to use next season takes care of the goals we were pursuing:
- taking out of the process any kind of subjectivity
- limiting as much as possible 'unfair' situations
- finding a reliable way to reflect reality without making it too complicated

A list with all non-rookie BBKL centers is provided by the league accordingly with the criteria stated below.
All other non-rookie forwards will start the season as wingers: no dual positions will be assigned.
An update will be performed during the All Star Game break (end of January).
Two special categories of players will be eligible for early updates.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

BBKL Policy for Center position - Season 2013-2014
(stats source: http://www.nhl.com/ice/playerstats.htm )

As announced months ago and repeatedly mentioned since, the FOR threshold has been raised to 0.45 for this season.

Here (3rd tab) https://docs.google.com/spreadsheet/ccc ... _web#gid=2 you can find the FOR list that will be used to perform the updates during this week, accordingly with the following specifics:

- stats were generated from all NHL games played this season through the end of November
- updates will apply to Monday 9th roster lock
- GMs may request data and role revision for a player of theirs within Monday 9th (status might change between nov 30th and dec 9th for players on the bubble)
- eligible for the update will be veterans with at least 20gp as of nov 30th and bbkl-rookies (i.e. players who currently still have their bbkl position determined by the outdated nhl.com draft lists) with at least 10 games as of nov 30th
- a second automatic update based on stats registered at the Olympic break will occurr during the Olympics and apply to first roster lock after the break
- NO updates will occur between the 2 automatic updates

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
CRITERIA TO DETERMINE FORWARDS POSITION for the start of the following season
(stats source: http://www.nhl.com/ice/playerstats.htm )

a) players that the previous season were in the top 4 of their (final) team will be C at the start of our next season*.
b) players that had 470 or more FOT with their final team will still be C even if out of the top 4.
c) players out of the top 4 and below the 470 threshold will still be C if their "FOR" is more than 0.3 in the last team they played for.

FOR = FaceOff Ratio = "FOT/icetime"
you get regular season FOT and icetime ("time on ice") from nhl.com, and to make things simpler the latter gets rounded down like this: 341:15 -> 341 , 1627:28 -> 1627 , 700:49-> 700.5.

exception
* a player that meets criterion a) but fails to meet both b) and c) will be made a winger upon his GM request.

GP specifics
IF the player played less than 26 regular season games for his final team and doesn't meet a) nor b), the following exceptions apply:
- if that number (x < 26) is the # of games he played in the entire season, the first previous season with more than 40 games will be the one deciding his position, accordingly with a), b) and c)
- if instead he was traded during the last season and played more than 40 games overall, his totals for the season will determine his position accordingly with c)
- if he was a bbkl rookie (never played 40 NHL regular season games in any previous season), his position will stay the one it was when he was drafted (source: http://www.nhl.com/ice/draftsearch.htm? ... 10&round=1). If he was listed with dual position, he will start his BBKL career as a winger.

GMs' appeal:
Once the list gets submitted, everyone will have the right and time during the off-season to apply for a change if they realize we had a player's position wrong (on his or others' team) under the aforementioned criteria. He will have to post the correct FOR in the dedicated thread asking for verification. If he is right the position will be fixed accordingly.

- early updates
Two categories of centers are eligible for an early update during the season:
- centers whose FOR was <.4 in the season used to determine their current position
- rookies (to be precise: centers who played less than 26 games the previous season and never reached 40 gp in one NHL season; i.e. centers whose position is still determined off nhl.com draft lists, or off CBS for undrafted players).
Once these players will have played their 26th game of the season, GMs will have the chance to ask for an early update of their position: if FOR<.3 the Center will be moved to W.
GMs will have a limited window to apply for the early update: from 26 to 29 gp; if the request is posted in this thread after the player has reached 30gp it won't be taken into consideration and the player will remain a C at least until the ASB.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
CRITERIA FOR IN-SEASON UPDATE OF FORWARDS POSITIONS -- 2012-2013
a) players that are in their current team top 4 will stay at center for the rest of the season.
b) --
c) players out of the top 4 will still be C if their FOR on the current season is higher than 0.3 (rounding: 3049 = .30 -> W , .305 = .31 -> C)

exception
IF (altogether):
- the player has FOR < 0.3
- no player with higher FOT and FOW% was traded away during the season without a player with higher FOT and FOW% replacing him
--> then the player will be made a winger even if belonging to the current top 4 of his team.

GP specifics
Position will not be updated for players with less than 20GP on the season.
Late updates will be available upon request once players late to reach the 20gp threshold will get there. GMs will have a limited window to apply for the late update: from 20 to 22 gp AND PRIOR to roster lock of the 1st round of the BBKL playoffs; if the request is posted after the player has reached 23gp or after that roster lock, it won't be taken into consideration and the player will remain a C till the end of the season.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
CRITERIA TO UPDATE FORWARDS POSITIONS at the ASG break
a) players that are in their current team top 4 will stay at center for the rest of the season.
b) players that have over 270 FOT and that played only with their current team will stay a C for the rest of the season even if out of the top 4.
c) players out of the top 4 and below the 270 threshold will still be C if their FOR on the current season is higher than 0.3 (rounding: 3049 = .30 -> W , .305 = .31 -> C)

exception (application should be requested by GMs)
IF (altogether):
- the player has FOR < 0.3 (and less than 270 FOT)
- no player with higher FOT and FOW% was traded away during the season without a player with higher FOT and FOW% replacing him
-> then the player will be made a winger even if belonging to the current top 4 of his team.

GP specifics
Position will not be updated for players with less than 26GP on the season.
Late updates will be available upon request once players late to reach the 26gp threshold will get there. GMs will have a limited window to apply for the update: from 26 to 29 gp.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Once it is announced that the updates have been completed, GMs are expected to check for any eventual mistakes and point them out.

You basically only need to care about these criteria for those borderline players who you think may be wrongly assessed.
Hopefully our list won't have any mistakes. Criteria a) and b) allow us to take care of c) only for a small minority of players, thus making the workload limited.

The complete list should become available pretty soon in a dedicated thread.

Here is an example of how it is expected to show:

Anaheim
a Saku Koivu
a Ryan Getzlaf
a Todd Marchant
a Brandon McMillan
c Kyle Chipchura 40gp, 283fot, 319.5ice => FOR =.88 > 0.3
c Nick Bonino 26gp, 166fot, 254.5ice => FOR =.65 > 0.3

the letter on the left indicates which criteria determined the center position.

If a non-rookie player won't appear in the complete list he will be a winger on CBS for the start of next season.

to check the FOR:
-go to nhl.com players stats,
-set the filters for regular season, 10/11, team, faceoff: you get the FOT number
-replace the "faceoff" filter with the "time on ice" one: round it down and you have your total TOI
-do the division FOT/TOI

Application for early update:

early updates from C to W of players belonging to the 2 categories eligible:
- centers whose FOR was <.4 in the season used to determine their current position
- bbkl rookies (to be precise: centers who played less than 26 games the previous season and never reached 40 gp in one NHL season; i.e. centers whose position is still determined off nhl.com draft lists, or off CBS for undrafted players).

Remember that to be credited with the position switch the eligible player (see above) must satisfy both following conditions:
1) the number of NHL games he has played during the current RS has to be in between 26-29
2) his corrispondent FOR for the current season must be below 0.3

if your player is compliant, please fill the following form and post it in this thread to request the update:

Player's name: xxxxxx xxxxxxx
Category: 'rookie' or pFOR = x.xx
2011/12 #GP: xx
2011/12 FOR: x.xx
NHLteam FOlink:
e.g. http://www.nhl.com/ice/playerstats.htm? ... centageAll

pFOR stands for the FOR of the season used to determined his current status.

Requests that will not provide all the data specified in the above form will not be considered.

Once the request is checked and approved the player will be switched from C to W until the ASG break at least, when further review will automatically apply (without request).

Please remind you will be allowed to use your player only in the specified position no matter if CBS leaves you the option of setting a different one too.

Feel free to ask for any clarification.

I have to make some more trades but I love this. Its a joke when players such as Ott or Zetterberg are considered wingers lol and this fixes that.

Why can't you just click on Time on Ice ? Instead of -click on players name -> split, click on regular season if necessary (if the player took part in the playoffs) and multiply the simplified average icetime for the number of GP: you get the icetime

lol, because i missed that tag!
i guess when i couldn't find it i thought it was "icetime" or nothing (alphabetical order..), my bad.

THANKS dude, that makes things even better: way quicker to get the icetime, and more accurate FOR.

I'm gonna fix the previous two posts accordingly.

lol, looks like i'm never done learning N.A. expressions...

anyway, Nick and Billy are actually the ones who started it bringin up the 4C per team thing, that ignited the rest.
So it was a good CC process.. hopefully the end product will also work smoothly.

Absolutely.. but Nick for one has been fighting that fight for a long while now to no avail. You can in and put the hammer down!!

Glad this is resolved and I hope it works out for the best. No more bitching about C's (hopefully).

there obviously will be loophole players regardless, but will be changed to Cs by mid season.

Lack of subjectivity is a HUGE, massive, Major plus, should really work IMO.

Can we make a case ... even if they are top 4 in C .. because there are so many factors that are not even considered here such as injuries.

From a fantasy point of view this 'les-git'.

Subjective appeals are just too messy, and lead to abuse. This gives ample time for our GMs to make the necessary moves, each change can been seen coming and in terms of # of guys taking draws on each BBKL team just plain makes sense.
