You could also have top 3 teams from each division make the playoffs, with 2 wild cards in each conference. Then reseed 1-16 for the playoffs. Division winning teams get top 4 seeds.

2nd, 3rd and 4th options all imply reseeding after each round, right? ( i.e. best seed gets worst remaining seed)

I hope and think the 2nd option implies conference-wide reseeding, with teams matching up within their conference rather than within their division right from the get go (1st round).
So #3 in the Conference should get #6 even if outside his division, and if #6 is the lowest seed advancing to 2nd round, #1 should get #6 in Round 2 even if from different divisions.
Just want to make sure

Yeah, the only true bracketed format is the current NHL playoffs (option 1).

I grew up on the divisional format with the old divisions in the Wales and Campbell. I honestly don't hate that old top 4 in each division in brackets but it lead to a lot of repetitive matchups. It was also back when they had 2/3 of the teams.

I think because of the NHL adopting one-off playoff formats each of the last two years because of the pandemic and we did something different last year ourselves...and with an extra team added to the league, it just seemed like the right time to check the pulse of the league and there seems to be an overwhelming urge to do something different with our playoffs.

We do a lot of what the NHL does but I don't see the harm in us doing something a little different if there's enough support. This was a wise idea to make this a league-wide vote and not make a decision like this to made solely by the CC.

This league is a dozen years old...tell me a league anyone has been in this league this league that hasn't made a significant change in format or the rules?

I don't think so, we can set a deadline. CC usually makes these decisions anyways and we are just opening it up to the league since it's a big possible change. If GMs don't vote they can't complain.

are we done with voting?

9 votes could affect the final numbers

would be nice to know which 9 GMs didn't vote

Maybe the next step would be to narrow it down to 2 selections and then have a final vote?

Options 3 and 4 are similar-ish and could garner more votes should we narrow the field of choices.

not sure why we should care about the opinion of GMs who didn't take a moment to vote in more than a month (probably they don't have a clear preference on this and don't care anyway)
