2020 Draft Predictions and Hot Takes

Post by Matthew »

1. Where do you think the players you drafted will be drafted in the NHL?

2. Make predictions of the Guy(s) you believe will be drafted way earlier or later than typical consensus.

3. Make predictions on who will be busts, who will be better than other players etc.

Any other predictions, as we have a pretty long break. Could be cool to look back on who is right and wrong in a few years.

Whoever Toronto drafts with there 2nd will vastly outperform their draft spot a la Sandin and Robertson.

Not a lot of my guys to predict this year as I took already drafted players for my last two picks, but here goes for the other 3

26th. Kaiden Guhle - I suspect he'll be this year's guys with all the physical tools that goes much higher than expected, let's say 18th OA
85th. Tyler Tullio - Probably late 2nd early 3rd, lets say 64th OA
86th. Veeti Miettinen - Mid third round somewhere, lets say 75th OA

Mark your calendars...NHL draft is October 6 (first round) and 7. Those are a Tuesday and Wednesday. It's not the traditional weekend format.

Works for me...put it on TV and I'll watch.

Considering they don't seem to know how or when they're going to start next season, I don't know what the need was to move it up a few days but whatever...throw another event on the pile that won't be done by conventional means.

Also free agency is scheduled to open on October 9...another mile marker that seems rushed but I think these tentative dates were laid out in the new/revised CBA. Since the playoffs are progressing and the bubble playoff model has gone off without a hitch, they can proceed with their proposed dates laid out for RTP.

It'll be great to jump into the offseason but I think the big question...how soon until the '20-21 season?

I have no clue what they will do for next season... I am sure the logistics of everything is currently quite a headache. I've seen the bubble in each Canadian city rumoured, which seems like it could work but will the players really agree to that for a full season? I bet that's why prospects are taking off now as it's becoming more clear next season won't start as scheduled, but who knows.

players are going overseas to get some games in, I believe all or most can be called back at any point (loaned players) for when the NHL is ready to begin, but this keeps them in gameshape and playing

Drew Commesso goes 2nd round
Calle Clang goes 3rd round.

Of all my picks, maybe Luke Tuch drops a bit.

The rest should be about the same.

Hot Take: Alex Pashin goes 2nd round - probably to Detroit (50 or 55) or Tampa (60).

(4) Perfetti - either drafted by Det at 4th or dropping to 6 or 7th..
(13?) Sanderson - top 10, maybe 5 to ottawa or 6th...
(24) Lappy - I think if he receives a good health report.. he may go top 15..

blah, everyone's guessing their prospect will rise so i will do just that!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Yeah, the European leagues are running now or will start soon. The KHL is a few games in already but I don't think they have a loan agreement with the NHL. The AHL and junior hockey going to be delayed but may still eventually play. College hockey seems to be very much in the air. It's a shame because Michigan could have a really fun team this year.

The benefit of doing the draft sooner might be beneficial to these prospects to at least know where they stand (affiliated with an NHL team or not) and the team can help decide what direction the player goes in this year. Do they try to fit a prospect camp in after the draft?

Once the draft happens and free agency starts...where it goes from there is anyone's guess.
