He got in early on the cap-diving contracts. Hank and Mule are going to finally be off the books in the next two years. He definitely knew how to spend Mr. I's money. Did he do it wisely? Not usually.

You can say he was patient with prospects and let them develop but when most of your prospect pool were last first rounders and later round diamonds in the rough...it's not like you're going to rush them to the NHL. When the Wings were competitive, any player under 24 had a hard time cracking the lineup unless they were named Datsyuk or Zetterberg.

He's got a good farm system in Bakersfield that he's inheriting...most of his work has to be done with the NHL roster.

Didn't he build most of that team before the cap came in though? Was definitely very early in the cap era

Cup was 3rd salary cap year. But still needed to be cap compliant just like any other team.

I certainly think Ken Holland is extremely overrated, but he's inheriting an underrated roster. His trades at the deadline, his UFA signings, these were terrible. I think he relied a lot on the success of late picks like Datsyuk, Lidstrom and Zetterberg, and sort of rode those picks to a lot of his success.

He's got his top 3 centres: McDavid, Draisaitl, Nugent-Hopkins

He's actually got a solid, underrated 6 defense: Klefbom, Nurse, Larsson, Sekera, Russell, Benning

The goaltending is bad, the wingers are terrible. Acquiring wingers should be the easiest thing to do as with the centres mentioned above, you don't need to get the elite of the elite.

This is the Joes' time in my book... the Avs will get their chances in the future.. I think they are going to be tough to deal with for a few years

Big story given by December people were talking about blowing up that st Louis team and even management was saying everyone was available. Huge turnaround.

yeah it's crazy, they were playing like crap a few games into Berube's tenure too

Anyways, nothing left in the tank for the Sharks apparently (I want to think otherwise they'd be able to bring it out in a game of this magnitude, even if they are the Sharks), Donskoi is their only player with some legs

I respect the Blues for not letting the bad break in Game 3 get them down. They've dominated this series since.

I wouldn't bury the Sharks yet...just ask Vegas...but it's not looking good.
