That's the rule. I'm going to run into the same situation once nylander signs.
Could you point to that in the cba? Can't find it.

Most would prefer to trade a contract for a pick or an unsigned player of equal value rather than drop them. I'm thinking more of a voluntary drop of a player instead paying a fine of a draft and still having to give up a contract.

I don't know if it's somewhere in the cba, but again, the cba has never been fully updated.

Just a quick example taken from it right now:
"Any unsigned player at beginning of the season can be sent to minors waiver exempt, but must go through waivers immediately upon signing an NHL contract."

that's a very old (non-sense imo) rule that was changed like 8 years ago.. the fact it is still there doesn't mean we have been exposing to waivers players in the minors that got signed to a contract.

And here are quick examples of the fact we have had for a long time an off-season limit to dropping contracted players:

http://bbkl.ca/viewtopic.php?f=5&t=4416 ... ers#p57181
Free drop period for contracted players ends Sept.20th

Waiver draft begins at 12 p.m. EST on September 20, 2011

Roaster Submission is due October 1st, 2011
http://bbkl.ca/viewtopic.php?f=5&t=1206 ... rs#p117451
CC OFFICIAL ANNOUNCEMENT [Jan 10, 2013 4:19 pm]
....

Lastly, and only for this season, the deadline for free drops of NHL contracted players is the roster submission date (January 17th at 8 p.m.).
So the only matter along the years has been whether contracted players could be freely dropped till roster submission (which I think is the case right now) or only until waiver draft.

Lee wroteCOLONSo just realized I fucked up. Alex Chiasson signed the day before game 1 and I didn't add him to my line up.

Simon Bourque was recently bought out freeing up a contract slot, meaning I'd have space now, after the fact.

Please let me know if I need to drop AC due to not having him in my lineup for week 1.
as it's been said already, the 50 contract limit is not an issue till next roster lock, as the signing happened less than 48 hrs before the previous lock.

I think the same logic should apply to Chiasson not being in your #1 lineup, so he shouldn't be dropped/exposed to waivers. Should only happen if he's not in #2 lineup.

but we have never given that option in the past.. I don't see how this case is different.

As for adding such option in the future, personally it doesn't look necessary to me. The current rule forces a trade to be made, but I don't see that as a problem.. it promotes some market activity and can be a very minor deal anyway..

Kinda weird that Bourque just decided to retire. Yeah he had a bad year but I don't think an ECHL assignment is worth ending your career over, after spending your whole life getting to that point. Ah well. Space for AC and a free roster slot.

I really need nylander to sign.

Also, Matt Murray bombing his first two games after a mediocre season last year bodes well for desmith.

I updated Bourque to being unsigned so you're legal now.

for some reasons this post cracked me up.

In less amusing news, I've officially managed to get 3 points out of 16 available for goalies while recording a .963 SV% and 1.45 GAA :x

It was a joke. As in he must suck if he is putting up elite stats and still losing. I actually do think he is criminally underrated.

It's actually been a fairly close week. No one getting absolutely skunked 15-1 or anything.

Ours could end that way given your embarrassing lack of goaltending. Gonna be real sad when you lose your shot at Huges due to missing goalie starts.
