Nope, I saw it. Hard for most teams to compete with the talent that the top of the league has.

Kudos for those teams in building up those elite franchises though. Either very impressive, or they fleeced ALOT of GMs on the way to the top.
Naw mostly with lowering GP so everyone can just dress empty skaters/goalies but that’s what they came up with so more power to them and Id say if you go back and I’d say a lot of them fleeced GMs

Most of the power in the league was built at the first by fleecing bad, new GMs. SInce then it has been about maintaining. Former top teams now bad are a result of poor management. It's been discussed ad nausem about rebooting the league with current GMs but no one in power wants to and I can't say I blame them. They might have to try :O

Hahaha. Eventually it should balance out... but the huge disparity will exist for quite some time. It'll take some smart GMs to manoeuvre around those loaded teams to get things going.

That's the other way to succeed. Trade high for futures, then when those futures show promise you trade for players in their prime. Matt started with those futures and did just that. It works. It's all about timing.

There's for sure more than one way to do it.

Trading packages of prospects for good nhlers before prospects inevitably fail to hit the ceiling you hope and pray that they will hit.

When I took over my team it had finished 4th last in the league. 3 seasons later I went to a conference final and was 1 category away from getting through. If you are committed to building a team over a few years and are willing to do your homework and spend the time reaching out to GM's to make deals to accelerate your build. You can turn a a shit team into a contender within a few seasons. See Buffalo and Dallas. A reset isn't necessary. More commitment will get you the results your after.

I definitely think you are misremembering things. Go look at Dallas ending 2014/2015 roster. The McDavid trade kind of set things in motion.

Dallas had some really good pieces. He just only had like 12 of them and thus couldnt fill out an entire roster.

Barkov, TT, Dougie, Klefbom, Lindholm, and then nothing but trash
Prospects
Fabbri, Dal Colle, Parayko, Pouliot, Hutton, and then nothing but trash

Schneider

Like I said, the McDavid trade set things in motion.

Lol. I don't even really need to defend him. His starting roster really wasn't much better than some of the bottom teams current rosters. Its disingenuous to act like he started with much.

Haters gonna hate. Yeah like no one liked any of my trades except maybe a couple people and now I’m over here running down the presidents trophy and got a bunch of young players in the Nhl and some in the minors

That looks like a pretty solid core valuewise to begin with. And he was guaranteed one of mcdavid/eichel.

But he has done a good job to get where he is now.

Except he had literally nothing else. Not even a semblance of NHL talent aside from those players. Is Chicago's starting roster worse? Yes, but that is a pretty bad starting roster.
