W-L-T in standing

Post by hong57 »

hey.. normally for tiebreakers it's the total points that determines who gets the win right for both playoffs and standing alike? does the general match ups w-l-t matters at all? just thinking maybe we can use that w-l-t in some kind of tie-breaking (like playoffs?) so teams will have to consider winning both their match ups and getting total points as well to further strategies their lineup? just a suggestion.

we do use W-L-T as tie-breakers in the standings (in playoffs we obviously use the RS standings as tie-breakers), but that rarely comes to fruition. I’d like to have the W-L-T matchups outcome to become more relevant, but hopefully that won’t bring back the suggestions for the dreaded pure W-L-T system that some adovcated for in the past

If we did, Toronto and Buffalo would flip spots
Florida would be ahead of Boston
Carolina would be ahead of Pittsburgh for a playoff spot
Rangers would leapfrog Jersey and Philly, Jersey would move to last
Only changing in West would be Calgary over Vegas and Edmonton, not affecting playoffs

Home ice advantage in playoffs. Last season I think Hong won a few of those.

ya i think the total wins and points system we currently have must be the main standing.. as that would allow teams easier for a comeback.. but w-l-t making it more relevant.. like matthew said for determining home-ice advantage ahead of total points? i think it would be a good idea.. and i definitely won't mind it however it goes though

Would be interesting to perhaps have w-l-t somehow play a bigger role in the standings in some shape or form. Perhaps as Hong said, as a way to determine home ice advantage or whatever.

i still prefer the way we have it set up now in the regular season, but it's an interesting thought

In the playoffs it breaks an 8-8 tie

but it’s awarded to the higher seed in the standings, not going by W-L-T record, right?
