Any veteran player that isn't signed to a contract can be kept in the minors without having to clear waivers. The only players that have to clear waivers are players signed to an NHL contract.

If the player (Trouba) signs in-season, the rule is that they have join the active roster (unless they're waiver exempt) within a week of the signing. If they aren't added to your lineup in that time, they have to clear waivers in order to stay in the minors.

Hello,

Can we please discuss the option to terminate contracts mid season, similar to how the NHL functions?

1) Player is placed on waivers
2) Player clears waivers
3) Player is bought out

Same sort of functionality for us, except player is just dropped.

Not asking for altruistic purposes lol. We're a league that strives to function like the NHL and this is an area that we are lacking in.

Buyouts don't happen mid-season. I was also under the assumption that a contract termination must be agreed to by both parties.

Word is that Nakladal didn't need to be bought out due to not reporting to the AHL.

With that said, teams can terminate the contracts of players with buy out waivers; see Nakladal.

Happened with Nathan Gerbe at the start of the season. He was waived before opening day. He refused to report. The Rangers terminated his deal and he became a free agent. He's over in Switzerland now.

In the database, I've been updating the players who have had their contracts terminate. They should appear as a UFA.

I think he's suggesting that we should be able to this ourselves with players that are still under contract in the NHL.

I think Arian is right. Both player and team need to agree to terminate the contract. Usually this happens when guys are heading to europe. Doesn't make sense in our league.

So, if you were to waive a guy in season (and they clear)...you'd get the option to drop the player during the season? When we'd typically not be able to drop contracted players in-season.

If I understand his suggestion correctly, yeah.

This. We can't factor in a players opinion but there is precedent within the confines of NHL rules for dropping players in season.

Why is a guy who hasn't posted in 2 months taking over the expansion franchise?

He is very active in another league. Do we have other guys who have been posting regularly over the last 2 months applying for the team? That's why he is being named now so he can start getting more involved.

I just don't get the rush. If he was interested in this league, he would be posting here.

He signs in every week or so. It's tough to have a guy consistently posting in a league for six months when he isn't even sure if he will get a team. Showing up rather than just forgetting about it is a fairly big commitment when u have no team.

It should (better) pick up now that he is officially the GM.
